Silk Paper Making with Hand Embroidery

Create 2D and 3D silk papers and combine with hand embroidery.

  • Starts 9 Oct
  • 65 British pounds

Discover the art of creating both 2D and 3D silk paper forms and creatively combine them with hand embroidery to create exquisite and unusual pieces of textile art that are completely unique to you. The morning is devoted to creating your silk papers, combining colours and adding in elements such as dried petals and angelina fibres. You'll learn how to use a form to create 3D silk papers as well as learning two different techniques to create the silk paper. After lunch you'll be supported to select some of your papers and creatively combine them with hand embroidery to create your own unique piece of textile art. Please note that due to the construction technique you may not be able to use the 3D papers for hand embroidery on the day - however, you will leave with the knowledge and skills to use them at home. By the end of the workshop you will be proficient at creating two types of silk paper, have learnt and developed your hand embroidery skills and leave with a range of samples and also a piece of beautiful textile artwork. The workshop is suitable for all levels of experience, including complete beginners. All materials are included, please bring a basic embroidery kit if you have one. A jam jar or similar is useful but not essential. The materials we will be using can be messy so please wear suitable clothes or bring an apron.
