  • Starts 9 Jul
  • 55 British pounds
  • Location 1

This hand embroidery workshop will lead you through all of the processes, techniques and stitches needed to create your own unique textile artwork, inspired by nature using pieced and patched fabrics. The beginning of the workshop will cover how to select and layout fabrics, to create a background ready to embroider on to. We'll look at piecing and patching smaller, irregular shaped fabrics together, exploring layering, cutting back fabrics as well as how to create a background that will work well with embroidery and look effective. A variety of fabrics will be available for you to choose from including naturally dyed, modern and vintage as well as sheer fabrics and net. You'll also be taught a range of hand embroidery stitches that lend themselves well to nature inspired embroidery throughout the day, as needed. During the afternoon you'll be supported to decide what embroidery to add to your background - no design, drawing or technical skills needed at all. There will be designs available for you to use, or you may prefer to create your own; either is completely fine. The remainder of the workshop will be spent creating your embroidery, being taught new and relevant stitches, receiving tutor support and guidance as your unique piece of artwork comes to life. By the end of the workshop you will have created your own, unique piece of textile art as well as learnt new techniques and hand embroidery stitches and had a break from the real world for a time! This workshop is suitable for people of all levels of experience, from complete beginners to those with lots of embroidery experience. All materials are included; if you have any fabrics or threads you would really like to use please feel free to bring them with you. Likewise, if you have any nature images you would like to use as a reference bring them along - this is not necessary as there will be lots for you to use.
