Boro Boro & Kantha Inspired Embroidery

A relaxing hand embroidery workshop inspired by Boro & Kantha work

  • Starts 17 Aug
  • Location 1

This relaxing hand embroidery workshop takes inspiration from both Boro and Kantha embroideries - the art of layering fabrics and embroidering on them; creating an individual artwork as you go. Both Boro and Kantha work were born out of necessity; they prolonged the life of clothing and textiles yet they were also beautiful - telling the history and stories of those who worked them through the many different fabrics used. Now they are seen as a beautiful artform to be treasured. During the workshop you'll learn more about the history of both of these techniques as well as creating your own piece of embroidery inspired by Boro and Kantha that can be framed or used for a bag or cushion front. The embroidery is relaxing, almost meditative so you'll also leave refreshed and relaxed! All materials are provided - however both Boro and Kantha was worked on to pre-loved fabrics so if you have some in your stash you'd love to use please do feel free to bring them with you. This workshop for adults and suitable for all levels of experience.
